Print This Page

Inevitably, we find ourselves in the need for
useful weights and measures, as well as, converting grams to pounds, liters to gallons, etc. etc. etc.
It can be downright flabberghasting!

I hope these useful weights, measures & conversions will take the mystery out of some recipes.

A pinch = 1/8 teaspoon or less
3 teaspoons = 1 Tablespoon
4 Tablespoons = 1/4 cup
8 Tablespoons = 1/2 cup
12 Tablespooons = 3/4 cup
16 Tablespoons = 1 cup
1 cup = 8 fluid ounces
1 cup = 1/2 pint
2 cups = 1 pint
4 cups = 1 quart
2 pints = 1 quart
4 quarts = 1 gallon
8 quarts = 1 peck
4 pecks = 1 bushel
16 ounces = 1 pound
32 ounces = 1 quart
1 ounce liquid = 2 Tablespoons

Butter measurements:
1/2 cup = 1 stick or 8 Tablespoons or 1/4 pound or 113 grams
1 cup = 2 sticks or 1/2 pound or 227 grams

Imperial Measurements vs. Metric
1 ounce = 28 grams
1 pound = 500 grams(approx.) or 1/2 kilo
2.2 pounds = 1 kilo
1 teaspoon = 5 milliliters
1 Tablespoon = 15 milliliters
1 cup = 1/4 liter
