Kitchen Supplies &
Kitchen Equipment

Stocking kitchen supplies can be so much fun!
And a little daunting, so these suggestions should get you started.

Your cooking style & cooking preferences will dictate the equipment you have in your kitchen, but there are some basics which are standard.

My recommendation if you are just beginning to cook -- get some basic essentials; then, cook a while, and your list of "must-have" items will grow quickly. :)

You will find great kitchen supplies & gadgets within Julie's store

It's expected that your kitchen will have a stove top, oven & microwave -- standard equipment.
Other kitchen supplies:
Food processor -- many people love a food processor. I have just purchased my first, and I've been cooking for almost 30 years. I believe it will make my cooking easier, but I can't speak from personal experience....yet :)
Hand mixer -- to me, this is a "must have" in kitchen supplies; I mix everything with this tool.
Blender -- nice for fruit smoothies, pureeing, and making pesto.
Immersion blender -- this is really nice for pureeing soups & mixing batter.
Heavy-duty electric mixer -- this usually sits on the counter and can mix batter, as well as, dough with a dough hook.

**You don't need all of the above at first, but can see what you will need the most.

Pots & Pans -- get a nice set, and you will be served well. It should include a large stock pot; small, medium to larger saucepan; and a few skillets; good sizes are 8 and 10 inch -- non-stick; hard anodized. Lids should be see through, so you can check on cooking in process. I like to wash my pots & pans by hand to keep them looking nice, and save space in the dishwasher.

Large skillet with see through lid: I love my 14 inch large skillet with lid for just about everything; it cooks large amounts easily.

Below is my all-time favorite pots & pans, which includes a beautiful large skillet. All with see-through lids. They are durable, & cook perfectly. These are an expensive set of pots & pans at a very reasonable price through amazon.com. Be sure to read the reviews. :)

Bakeware -- muffin tin, cookie sheets -- heavy duty; oven casseroles (glass); 8 x 8 and 9 x 13, an oval or oblong casserole with lids -- all glass or ceramic with see through lids. I wash my cookie sheets, and muffin tins by hand.
I am in love with silicone bakeware (see below), because I was fed up with peeling teflon.
Metal racks -- a couple; used for cooling baked goods.

Roasting pan -- you will probably need one in time; glass, ceramic and metal are available.

Knives -- You will need a paring knife, an 8 inch chef's knife, and a serrated bread knife. Don't put your knives in the dishwasher; it will dull them. You will need a way to sharpen your knives -- either an electric knife sharpener or a whetstone or sharpening steel. Of course, you can have them sharpened professionally too.
Cutting board -- at least 2, and use one exclusively for meat to minimize possible contamination from meat juices.
Mixing bowls -- about 3 to start; small, medium and large.
Measuring devices -- you will need a liquid measuring cup, regular measuring cups, and measuring spoons.

Strainer -- essential
Spatulas and spoons -- large sized spoons for stirring; a slotted spoon for lifting items out of liquid; and a variety of spatulas -- rubber for mixing, and metal for flipping food and serving.

These are 2 of my favorite kitchen supplies.

Whisk -- it's nice to have about 3 in a variety of sizes.
Rolling pin
Cheese grater
Timer -- useful
Can opener -- essential
Thermometer -- it's really nice when learning to check doneness; an instant read thermometer is a good start.
Vegetable peeler -- indispensable; buy a good one, because it will get a lot of use.
Hot pads -- for your hands when lifting food out of the oven.

Hope this helps to get you started with your essential kitchen supplies & kitchen equipment.
