How to Make Tartar Sauce

Print This Page

How to make tartar sauce basics:

Homemade tartar sauce is simple & oh so delicious! Only 3 ingredients.

I created this recipe, because I can't get tartar sauce in the stores here & it uses everyday ingredients.
I will never buy store bought again.

Try this recipe once, and you'll never go back. I promise; it's that good!

My whole family does an "oh my" when they eat it, just like they're on a Food Network show :)
We love it with fried tilapia. So good!!
I could eat it by the spoonful.

tartar sauce

This recipe will make 1 cup of tartar sauce; so, adjust as needed.
1 cup mayonnaise
2 to 2 1/2 Tablespoons sweet pickle relish -- you may want more or less, but this amount works for us. You can squeeze out the sweet pickle juice a little against the side of the jar, but I don't stress about it.
1 tsp. or more horseradish -- this is the key ingredient right here folks! YUM.

The horseradish is what takes this tartar sauce to the top.
It adds such a great zing, but it's really not too spicy.

Mix it all together & enjoy!
Refrigerate any left-overs.
