This ham steak recipe is a Rachel Ray recipe and boasts a spicy chili gravy. Serve this hearty steak with cheesy polenta.
Serves 2. 2 T. canola oil 2 - 1/2 lb. ham steaks 1/2 small onion, finely chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 bell pepper, finely chopped Salt & Pepper 4 T. tomato paste 2 T. chili powder 1 cup beef stock
Polenta Recipe: 1 cup milk 2/3 cup quick-cooking polenta 2 T. butter 1 tsp. hot sauce, or a several dashes 1 cup shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
1. Heat 1 T. oil in skillet over medium heat. Cook the ham steak until browned & cooked through -- about 3 minutes for each side. Remove from skillet; cover to keep warm. 2. Heat remaining 1 T. oil in skillet & saute onion, garlic, and pepper; cook until tender. Season to taste with salt & pepper. 3. Stir in tomato paste, chili powder & cook briefly. Add stock & simmer for a few minutes to reduce. 4. While gravy is simmering, in another saucepan bring milk & 1 cup of water to a boil over low to medium heat; stirring frequently. Add polenta and whisk for 2 to 3 minutes. 5. Melt 2 T. butter in warm polenta; stir in hot sauce & cheese. Remove from heat.
Serve ham steak with gravy and cheesy polenta on the side. Enjoy.
