Ham Steak Recipe

Print This Page

This ham steak recipe is a Rachel Ray recipe and boasts
a spicy chili gravy.
Serve this hearty steak with cheesy polenta.

Serves 2.
2 T. canola oil
2 - 1/2 lb. ham steaks
1/2 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 bell pepper, finely chopped
Salt & Pepper
4 T. tomato paste
2 T. chili powder
1 cup beef stock

Polenta Recipe:
1 cup milk
2/3 cup quick-cooking polenta
2 T. butter
1 tsp. hot sauce, or a several dashes
1 cup shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese

1. Heat 1 T. oil in skillet over medium heat. Cook the ham steak until browned & cooked through -- about 3 minutes for each side. Remove from skillet; cover to keep warm.
2. Heat remaining 1 T. oil in skillet & saute onion, garlic, and pepper; cook until tender. Season to taste with salt & pepper.
3. Stir in tomato paste, chili powder & cook briefly. Add stock & simmer for a few minutes to reduce.
4. While gravy is simmering, in another saucepan bring milk & 1 cup of water to a boil over low to medium heat; stirring frequently. Add polenta and whisk for 2 to 3 minutes.
5. Melt 2 T. butter in warm polenta; stir in hot sauce & cheese. Remove from heat.

Serve ham steak with gravy and cheesy polenta on the side.
Enjoy.
