Easy Recipes!

We all need easy recipes!
When I was homeschooling and had my 5 kids at home;
I could not labor in the kitchen all day.

I needed easy recipes that my family would love, and I could get on the table in a hurry.

Who wants to eat food that doesn't taste good? Nobody!
It's not worth the hassle to cook and it's a waste of valuable resources.

My philosophy of cooking is "all things simple & delicious."
When I hunt for new recipes and I find one that claims to be "easy" and the first ingredients are arugula or mango chutney.

I hit the delete button, and fast!

I promise not to mislead you -- these are easy recipes with limited ingredients.
There's a whole section just for simple recipes too,
so you're in the right place :)

Before we get to the delicious recipes; we need to talk about some basic guidelines to making your cooking easy for you.

These aren't dirty words; they are simple habits that you can incorporate into your day which will make your life simpler.

1. Plan your weekly menus in advance.
Pick a time that fits your schedule -- maybe Sunday afternoon while you're relaxing; but, definitely do it before grocery shopping that week, so you can get all your supplies.
Set your menu on the refrigerator so everyone knows "What's for dinner?" It will also serve as a reminder to you to take your meat out early and plan ahead.
This simple step can save you time and money in an effort to stay at home and eat.

2. Grocery shop:
Use your weekly menu and plan your grocery shopping list.
Divide your paper into sections:
Fruits & vegetables
Frozen items
Dairy
Meat
Canned foods
Breads
Non-food items, etc.
This will make your grocery shopping easier.

YOU CAN ALSO SET YOUR LIST UP IN THE ORDER
OF YOUR GROCERY STORE.

This may seem obsessive, but I bet you know your favorite grocery store by heart and you can write your list in the order of the aisles.
This actually can make shopping a breeze, except of course, when the store decides to do an aisle shuffle!

3. Plan ahead.

This step can not be avoided!
You need to think about your evening meal in the morning, and take out the meat to thaw. Be sure to set it in the fridge when it's thaw, so it doesn't go bad.
OR, take it out the night before and set it in a Tupperware in the fridge.
Thawing your meat ahead saves time and money, so at the last minute you don't have to go out or order dinner in.

4. My last tip: Clean up as you go!

This tip came from my wise 7th grade Home Economics teacher, and I have tried to pass it on to my kids.

Simply:
Put items away as you are done with them -- this includes food, spices, oils, mixers, and dishes.
Don't leave everything on the counter to make a lot of clutter.
Load the dishwasher as you are done with a bowl, dish, measuring cup or spoon.
When you reach the end of your recipe, all you will have left is to wipe the kitchen counter, and cook your goodies.
