Easy Biscuit Recipe
Print This Page
My family loves this flaky, moist, easy biscuit recipe. I have tried other recipes and they just didn't match up to this one. Melt in your mouth good -- a winner!
This biscuit recipe calls for whole wheat flour -- I love it when a recipe makes me feel like I'm being a good mom :)
At the link below, I've included photos & instructions to making perfect biscuits every time.
How to Make Biscuits

If you have any leftovers, these are great spread with peanut butter -- but what isn't good with peanut butter?! :)
This recipe came from Pat, and I found it in a Gooseberry Patch cookbook -- Recipes for Comfort.
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 cup whole wheat flour 2 T. sugar 1 T. baking powder 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 cup shortening, like Crisco semi-hard shortening. 1 egg 1/2 cup milk
1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flours, sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt. 2. Cut the shortening into the dry ingredients with a pastry cutter (see below) or two forks until it resembles coarse crumbs. 3. Combine egg and milk; make a well in the center of crumbs & pour milk mixture into it. Stir until dough just starts to hold together. 4. On a lightly floured surface, knead gently about 10 to 12 strokes to combine mixture completely; roll or pat to 1/2 inch thickness. 5. Cut with 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter, dipping cutter in flour between cuts, if necessary. You will need to re-roll dough until all is used. 6. Transfer to greased baking sheet; Bake at 375 degrees for 15 - 18 minutes or golden brown. Mine have taken as little as 13 minutes. 7. Serve warm.
Makes 10 - 12 biscuits
