Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

Print This Page

This Cinnamon Rolls Recipe is spankin' similar to the classic "Cinnabons," which are slam-dunk delicious!

I have other recipes for cinnamon rolls on this site,
but this is my family's all-time favorite.

The other recipes play an important part:
One is super-easy; almost no recipe at all.
One is more like a biscuit -- definitely delicious.
And, another is an overnight recipe -- totally convenient!
They're "role" players, so to speak -- oh, that's terrible :)

This is my "want to impress everybody with how great I bake"
go-to recipe. Enjoy friend!

Best Cinnamon Rolls Recipe:
This recipe makes 12 very generous-sized rolls.
Dough:
1/4 cup warm water
1 T. yeast
1 cup milk, room temperature
1 large egg, beaten
1/4 cup butter, softened (not melted)
1 T. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 pkg. instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 oz. box)

Filling:
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 T. cinnamon
1/4 cup butter, softened (not melted)

Cream Cheese Cinnamon Frosting:
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, softened (not melted)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 T. milk
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1. Heat 1/4 cup water to about 105 - 110 degrees. Add yeast. Let stand for about 10 minutes until good & bubbly.

2. If you have a stand mixer with a dough hook, add remaining dough ingredients to mixer bowl; add yeast mixture, and knead until well mixed, soft and pliable. If no stand mixer, use an electric hand mixer, and you will have to knead the rest by hand on a lightly floured surface, if it gets too difficult to combine.

3. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar & cinnamon for the filling.

4. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to an 18" by 30" rectangle -- or, as close to that size as possible -- mine is usually a bit smaller (14" x 24" roughly).

5. Spread the softened butter over the dough; sprinkle evenly the brown sugar & cinnamon mixture.

6. Starting with the long edge of the dough, roll up tightly. With a pastry scraper or knife, cut the dough into 2 inch rolls. Place in greased baking pans 2 inches apart. This is really important, because they need space to rise & expand into greatness.

7. Cover and let rise in a warm, draft-free area until double in size, roughly an hour.

8. After the rising, rolls will be touching each other and the sides of the pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Keep a close eye your first time baking these, since heat varies from oven to oven.

9. In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, butter, vanilla and milk; add powdered sugar & cinnamon until smooth. Spread over warm rolls.
