Cherry Squares

Print This Page

My friend, Sue, shared these yummy cherry squares at a library Christmas party. As soon as I tasted them, I needed the recipe :)

With the cherry pie filling & crumb topping, they make a deliciously
festive bar.
Enjoy!

1 white cake mix
1 1/4 cups rolled oats -- not instant
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 egg
1 can cherry pie filling
1/2 cup chopped nuts, pecans or walnuts
1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9 x 13 inch pan.
2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, 6 T. softened butter, and 1 cup oats. Mix until crumbly.
3. Reserve 1 cup of mixture for a topping.
4. To remaining crumbs, add egg. Mix until well blended. Press into greased pan.
5. Pour cherry pie filling over crust; cover whole crust.
6. To reserved crumbs, add 1/4 cup oats, 2 T. butter, nuts and brown sugar. Mix thoroughly.
7. Sprinkle topping over cherry pie mix.
8. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool completely in pan.
