Best Scone Recipe

Print This Page

I stake my word & reputation on this statement:
This is the Best Scone Recipe Ever!

I had been on a hunt for a delicious scone recipe; and, my search came up short. All the scone recipes I tried tasted like baking soda & were just lacking in luster -- dry, tasteless; just plain yucky!

And then I found this delectable dar-looney recipe in a Southern Living magazine and my search was over.
Absolutely no reason to keep looking -- I found the best!!

Oh my goodness, Right?!
We've had these twice in one week before; they're so scrumpsh.
These are actually creamy, because they melt-in-your-mouth.

cranberry scone

This recipe makes 8 - 9 scones.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup milk
2 large eggs
1/2 - 3/4 cup dried fruit of your choice -- dried blueberries, cranberries or mixed berry.
1 T. milk
White sugar for sprinkling

1. In a large bowl, stir together first 4 ingredients.
2. In another bowl, whisk together butter, 1/2 cup milk and 1 egg. Add to flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are just moistened and a batter forms.
3. Add dried berries with a wooden spoon to batter.
4. Drop dough by 1/3 cupfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheet.
5. Whisk together 1 egg & 1 T. milk; brush tops of scone batter with egg mixture. Sprinkle each with a pinch of sugar. (I always have extra egg wash left, so I store it in a ziploc bag for next time).
6. Bake for 20 minutes in a 400 degree oven. Oven heat varies, so keep a close eye the first time you bake these, and adjust the time.
Be prepared to love these!
