Best French Toast Recipe

Print This Page

This best french toast recipe comes from my favorite Food Network show, "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" and it is so yummy!

Guy Fieri had visited a diner called "The Blue Moon Cafe."
It looked terrific, so I tried it myself, and found out...
It is terrific!

Anytime you mix Captain Crunch with a classic like french toast; you're going to have a winner!

That's the secret twist: Captain Crunch.
My girls and I are going to try it with Golden Grahams and/or Cinnamon Toast Crunch too -- some of our all-time favorite cereals.

One thing about 3D (Diners, Drive-ins & Dives :) is you really get no measurements, so you have to wing it when you try it on your own.
So, that's what I did.
Hope you enjoy! :)

The Captain's Best French Toast Recipe:
5 eggs
1/4 to 1/2 cup whole milk or cream
1 Tablespoon sugar
Ground cinnamon to your liking
Captain Crunch cereal
Sliced bread - about a half loaf or more
Fruit to top; we used cut up fresh mango & drained mandarin oranges.
Other choices would be strawberries, blueberries and/or bananas
Whipped cream
Syrup (optional)

1. Mix eggs, milk, sugar & cinnamon together.
2. Place Captain Crunch cereal (about 2 cups or more) in an 8 x 8 square pan. Mash it slightly with bottom of glass. Don't smash it too much; you want about an equal combination of chunks to crumbs.
3. Dip the bread slice in egg mixture; then into the Captain Crunch mixture. Press Captain Crunch into the bread, flip, and do the same thing to the other side.
4. Heat up some oil in a fry pan. Place the bread in & cook on both sides. The Captain Crunch crystallizes a bit, and its flavors intensify. Such yummy goodness!

Top with your favorite fresh fruits & whipped cream.
Add some syrup if you like, but it really doesn't need it.
