BBQ Ribs Recipe

Print This Page

Absolutely fall-off-the-bone goodness in this BBQ Ribs recipe.
Tender & delicious!
I use the sauce as my "go-to" homemade barbecue sauce -- it's really tasty, and can be adapted to your family's tastes.

Sidenote: In the Philippines, we can't get good ribs, so I don't get to make this very often. I made it at Christmas while in the states, and I must have been drunk on BBQ sauce or something, because I didn't take a picture. What was wrong with me?! All that to say, I'm sorry, but I don't have a picture. Please trust me that these ribs are delicious!

I found this recipe in a Taste of Home Magazine.
Yields about 6 - 8 servings.
I have had to triple this recipe before to serve a crowd, and they are still scrumpsh!

6 lbs. pork spareribs -- I use any pork rib with bones that has the best price, and looks nice.
3 cups ketchup
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
3/4 cup onion, chopped
1 tsp. garlic powder
4 to 5 tsp. Liquid Smoke
1 - 2 T. prepared yellow mustard

1. Cut ribs into serving sized pieces, place on a rack in a shallow baking pan. Bake, uncovered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, saute the onion in a little bit of oil until tender. Add remaining ingredients; bring to a low boil; turn down heat to a simmer. Simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Keep a close eye on the sauce while it's cooking.
3. Drain ribs after initial baking, and remove any cooking scum that gathered on ribs.
4. Reserve some sauce for dipping later.
5. Pour remaining sauce over ribs & brush in.
6. Cover and bake for 30 - 40 minutes or until tender. Uncover; bake an additional 30 minutes; brushing with sauce from pan periodically & turning ribs once.

Enjoy!
